First Annual Churchill Society Herf
We had been trying to figure out how to formally introduce The Churchill Society to the on-line cigar community. So, we thought.. 'why not have a Herf'!! Mouse-over to see high-res scan.
The Herf was held at The Churchill Society located at 320 West King Street in Martinsburg, WV 25401 on October 18th 2008. The festivities started at 10:00AM and ran till 9:30 PM or so. Turn out was on the light side with a total of about 30 people braving the cold air and wind. Most attendees were content to hang out in the nice warm club. Turn out was also hampered by the Apple Harvest Parade. Talk about a traffic nightmare.
On the day of the Herf we held two raffles and wrapped up the clubs food drive. Some items in the first group to be raffled were: shirts, hats, cigars and accessories. And were donated by the following great sponsors....

We collected 3 large boxes of food and raised $573 for CCAP/Loaves and Fishes Food Pantry.
The second raffle benefited The Churchill Society. This raffle was for this framed original oil painting done by our resident artist Ralph Basford, valued at $400. Titled "Cigar and Malt", and is depicting a tasty smoke communing with a 10 year old single malt. My apologies to Ralph as this photo does not do the painting justice. Congratulations on the win Ed!!

This was a great day of smoking, eating, drinking and more importantly, raising some cash and much needed food items for those less fortunate than us. The Martinsburg gang: Shadow (Bill), SmokinAFuente (Rodney), Bacchus (Will) and a dozen or two of the local guys are looking forward to seeing you all here next year! When we do it bigger and better!!
